Wow, I’ve learned so much over the past few months about marketing my brand to other businesses to sell. I went into this entire process thinking that I knew everything I needed, but I didn’t know the half of it, it’s certainly been a learning experience, but things are going well. When I posted about starting my own pin line here in Saudi some other small business emailed me about how you even start to get your products out there, so I thought I would share those steps. We all need to do what we can to support one another after all, right?
For the sake of this post I’m going to imagine that you already have your brand, products and everything else you need for your business, but like a lot of small businesses wanting to get their foot in the door you’re looking for buyers to buy your products. So how do we get buyers? You hustle your booty off contacting them and get your amazing products out there. But guess what? There’s a certain professional method that they expect, and if you even want to be taken seriously, you’re going to do things the right way.
And that’s where a line sheet comes in. Guys, I had never even heard of a line sheet before I started all this. My goal (and you should have one too) was to sell my pins to local Gulf business, since that’s what my idea was based off to start with. I immediately started contacting businesses about my pins to see if they would be interested in selling them in their stores and the reply that I got was sure, they would love to take a look at my line sheet and discuss it more. Panic mode WTH is a line sheet, and after loads of research I had my answer.
So basically a line sheet is a paper (digital or print) that has your logo, business and contact information, images of your products and everything about them (size, color, cost, wholesale, etc.). It lets a business quickly know what you have and how they can get it. It makes things simple for buyers, and you HAVE to have one. I had so much work to do already so the thought of designing one seriously left me unmotivated. I looked for templates that I could easily fill. However, everything I found online was ugly and not something that I would want representing my own brand.
And that’s when I just bit the bullet and designed my own, but I thought about all of you and made an easy to use template for you too. This template is so easy to work with, all you have do is insert your text and images and you can also change the colors and font. After you have your line sheet prepared look around at all the shops you would love to sell with, and send a professional email with your line sheet attached, maybe you won’t hear back from some, but maybe you will from others (fingers crossed). That’s how you take the first steps to get your name out there, and soon people will be contacting you.
